Mechanical Design Engineer


Job Description


The Mechanical Design Engineer's primary responsibility is to initiate designs for equipment for our customer's products that meet quality standards and are delivered on time.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all project conceptualization, design, and completion of jobs assigned
  • Responsible for project punctuality and budget
  • Design assembly, inspection, and test systems using SolidWorks
  • Reverse engineering of customer part or fixture
  • Hands on designing and debugging with shop floor personnel
  • Assist in managing and coordinating the overall design and build of production equipment.
  • Confer with the Engineering Manager, Manufacturing, Quality, and Sales to develop equipment specifications that will meet production and quality requirements.
  • Create project book with related drawings and BOMs.
  • Create machining & assembly workbooks.
  • Assist in directing and monitoring the activities of the Tool Makers and Systems Engineer.
  • Monitor all equipment builds to insure the equipment meets the intended functionality and they are within budget.
  • Interact with operations to make improvements to existing equipment, tooling.
  • Develop technical specifications for new equipment and tooling that are purchased from various vendors.
  • Assist with the launch of new products.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to production processes, methods and controls using the principles of lean Design and Kaizen.

Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 2-5 years mechanical design/machine design experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of 3D CAD software, Preferably SolidWorks.
  • Knowledge of ergonomic principles and safety
  • Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Creative and Innovative thinker
  • Familiarity with standard engineering concepts, practices and procedures with milling machines and other manufacturing shop machinery is essential.
  • Experience in machine design, material selection, specifying purchased components, design through detail drawings and Bills of Material
  • Experience in troubleshooting
