Job Description

  • A Mechanical Engineer utilizes standard digitizing and CAD techniques, skills, design rules and specifications to prepare 3D design models for profile/part generation, perform mathematical calculations and prepare layouts, part specifications, renditions, variations and similar applications, related to sustaining engineering.
  • The ME will provide engineering support, leadership, and technical responsibility for assigned projects. Work with product management, consulting engineers, project engineers, marketing, production, quality assurance, purchasing, and vendors to manage product development projects for globally sourced products.
  • Reports to VP of Research and Development (or their designee) with input from Product Management. 

Job Description:

  • Creates and makes changes to technical drawings according to specific instruction, and clearly marked sketches along with writing and maintaining configuration rules and other documents.
  • Optimizes and designs products based on a combination of simulated and real-world failure analysis.
  • Recommend updates and provide solutions based on product standards, specifications, and agency requirements.
  • Coordinate with operations, quality assurance, product compliance and vendors as needed to ensure compliance to agency standards.
  • Analyze existing products and make recommendations for cost improvements (value engineering). 

Required Skills and Experience: 

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering with three+ years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Familiar with common manufacturing processes (casting, 3D models, patterns, machining, & stamping)
  • Technical competency in areas relating to: metal materials, polymer composite materials, business values, project management
  • Demonstrate proficiency in tools such as Microsoft suite of tools, Pro-E/CREO/Solidworks, PDMLink, Configured product 

Preferred: 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and 3-6 years of relevant experience in a product, project, or support engineer role with a wide spectrum of processes for a manufacturer.
  • Strong Experience with metallurgy (steel and aluminum) and/or polymer composite materials, standards testing (ASTM), architectural design.
  • Experience specifying materials based on application and technical requirements.
  • 3D CAD software expertise (Pro/E, Creo - preferred).
  • Expertise in the use of finite element analysis (FEA) to design and modify the designs or existing and developmental products.
  • Familiar with rapid prototyping processes to develop physical renderings of proposed designs.
  • Experience working with team members in multiple countries and across several time zones (off- shore contracted engineering, international suppliers.)
  • Working knowledge of MS Project, or equivalent
  • Exposure working with regulatory/listing agencies, IBC (International Building Codes), IRC (Residential Codes)
