Job Description

FEA Design Engineer 

To provide design and product leadership utilizing Computer Aided Analysis and Simulation for all aspects of new product development and optimization of existing products. 

Responsibilities

  • Perform Engineering design using structural calculations, including Finite Element Analysis (FEA), to minimize development time and provide feedback to ensure products meet customer requirements in the Statements of Work.
  • Enable smooth transition of new products from design to production as well as driving improvements into existing products through design, material selection, manufacturing process improvements, and other methods.
  • Responsible for ensuring all Product Engineering documentation is present, accurate, and relevant.  Special focus on CE (European Community) certification and documentation.
  • Participate in activities to ensure "Design For Manufacturability and Assembly" (DFMA) is taken into account
  • Utilize DFMEA's (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) as required.
  • Utilize Engineering software systems, such as Siemens NX, ANSYS, MathCAD, & MS Office.
  • Mentoring of Engineers and/or Designers.
  • Adhering to company policies and procedures per the Quality Management System, Safety Manual and Employee Handbook.
  • Any other duties as required and requested by the Design Engineering Manager. 

Experience

  • Minimum of Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, or other relevant technical discipline.
  • Knowledge of Pneumatics and Hydraulics as applied to product design is a plus. 
  • Minimum of 3- 5+ years relevant experience in a product development or applied mechanics environment working with structural simulation, dynamic loading and occasionally thermal simulation.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 Quality systems required.
  • Familiarity with Aerospace standards. European standards, and Military standards and expectations beneficial. 

Abilities, Knowledge & Skills

  • Level of knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) (ANSYS Preferred) and mathematical analysis required to be commensurate with years of experience. 
  • Familiarity with Solid Modeling CAD software required, preference for that knowledge to be in Siemens NX (UniGraphics).
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office is a must. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
  • Must possess analytical thinking and reasoning skills.
  • Must be able to mentor designers.
