Job Description

*Die Casting Process Engineer

HANDS ON, will support Production.

Process Engineer III-DE - Reports directly to the Die Casting Engineering Manager.

Position Summary:
Oversees and participates in the design and implementation of die cast manufacturing processes; determining sequence of operations; forecasting machinery/equipment/operator process time requirements; designing new tooling and redesigning current tooling; programming manufacturing robotic equipment; and preparing operational standards. Leads and participates in determining manufacturing process improvement targets. Prepares annual budget recommendations for needed equipment replacements/improvements and tracks and oversees the implementation of the approved departmental budget. Recommends appropriate manning levels to meet process engineering needs. Oversees the necessary training and performance of Process Engineer I and II level associates.

Scope of Responsibilities:
Leads and participates in the design, layout, and implementation of new die cast processes. Leads and participates in the analysis and modification of current manufacturing processes to implement process improvements. Oversees and participates in the programming of manufacturing robotic equipment. Leads and participates in determining processing sequences, optimal operational time requirements, and preparation of operational standards. Leads and participates in the modification of current tooling designs; preparation of customer claim reports; and determination and implementation of Poke Yoke devices.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
o Oversees and leads the activities of Process Engineer I and II level associates.
o Leads and participates in the design and layout of new manufacturing operations in the die cast operations and oversees and leads in their implementation.
o Leads and participates in the analysis and modification of current manufacturing die cast operations including production equipment relocations.
o Leads and participates in determining the optimal sequence of die cast, machining, and/or assembly operations.
o Leads and participates in programming production equipment including robotic extractors, deburring robots, etc.
o Leads and participates in time and motion studies to determine the optimal time requirements for each station in a production operation including conducting cycle time studies for OEE improvements.
o Leads and participates in the analysis of high rejection rates of assigned processes and assures implementation of appropriate countermeasures.
o Leads and participates in the modification of existing tooling for design improvements in production processes.
o Leads and participates in the preparation of customer claim reports (5P report).
o Leads and participates in the determination and implementation of appropriate Poke Yoke devices for quality assurance.
o Leads and participates in the preparation of operational standards for manufacturing operations.
o Applies Deming principles and other root cause analysis tools when analyzing production processes and uses those tools to make appropriate improvements.
o Leads and participates in the development and implementation of improvement plans that target reductions in manufacturing operational time while avoiding adverse impact to production operators.
o Performs other process engineering related functions as assigned.
" Improvement Activities:
o Applies Deming principles and other root cause analysis tools when analyzing problems within the associates department and makes appropriate recommendations for improvements.
o May participate in Quality Circle improvement teams when possible.
o Performs other related improvement functions as assigned

Education/Experience/Training (minimum required):
Requires a bachelor's degree in Process Engineering or related field with preferably some post-graduate coursework and 4 years of progressively more responsible process engineering or equivalent experience in die casting.
Must have good computer skills in developing reports using basic spreadsheets and graphs as well as word processing. Must skilled in the use of Deming and/or other root cause analysis tools as well as knowledge of time and motion study techniques.
Prefer some leadership experience.
