Job Description

PDSI Technical Services has an immediate need for an Electrical Power Designer in Northern Kentucky.

o Provide detailed physical design of electric distribution systems to include one-line diagrams, selection of equipment, writing of equipment specifications, grounding system design conduit and cable sizing/routing, auxiliary AC/DC power systems, physical layouts, construction cost estimates and project scheduling.
o Perform engineering design & equipment specification functions for distribution projects from 480V to 35 kV.
o Specify, review, inspect, and approve electrical equipment to be used in distribution systems.
o Design of physical design, including bus design, equipment ratings, and safety/maintenance clearances.
o Electrical equipment inspection and engineering assessment.
o Coordinate designs with outside contractors and vendors and other Engineers.
o Interpret and apply common engineering principles and standards.
o Must be able to clearly and effectively communicate in English and be comfortable doing so directly to customers and coworkers
o Experienced AutoCAD user.
o Interface and collaborate with Civil/Structural engineers and provide technical support as required.
o Display strong communication and interpersonal skills and can work in a fast-paced team environment.
o Preparing equipment specifications, analyzing bids, and making recommendations for purchase.
o Preparing engineering and construction cost and man-hour estimates and schedules;
o Meeting and corresponding with clients or outside personnel.
o Support construction of substations and equipment commissioning.
o Design lighting and power distribution systems, low voltage systems (fire alarm systems, telecommunications/data networks, lighting control systems, power monitoring systems, etc.) including sizing of equipment, etc.
o Review and/or establish project scope, electrical budget, and design approach.
o Analyzing Systems.
o Perform lighting calculations and circuit loading calculations
o Participate in coordination of meetings with design team members and clients
o Complete energy code compliance documentation using US DOES ComCheck software
o Prepare feasibility studies and schematic design packages of lighting, power systems, etc
o Communicate and work with all other disciplines to produce coordinated construction documents in a timely manner. Able to efficiently create one line, three line, Schematics, wiring diagrams, demolition, construction and lift and land.
o Able to specify electrical components according to NEC, IEEE standards and create associated drawing and schedules for purchase and installation.
o Conduct site survey for field measuring and construction observation
o Review and edit project submittals and specify action required with vendors and contractors.
o Prepare project cost estimates.
